Motorcyclist Ride in Honor of Ohio's Fallen
Officers
On
Sunday, June 20th, an estimated one thousand
motorcyclists will ride in honor of Ohio's
Fallen Officers. A 10:30 AM Ceremony at the
Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial will
include the reading of the names of the four
Ohio Peace Officers who lost their lives in the
Line of Duty, including Cleveland Heights Police
Officer Thomas Patton II and Elyria
Police Officer James Kerstetter.
One of the speakers will be Tracy
Johnson, whose husband Cleveland Police Patrol
Officer Anthony "Tony" Johnson watch ended on
October 21, 1981, during a bank robbery. Ms.
Johnson's son, Tony Jr. was just seven and one
half months old when he lost his father.
This is the second annual Cops
Ride and the Ride is dedicated to raising funds
for various police charities. This year the Cops
Ride has pledged Ten Thousand Dollars from the
Ride proceeds to the Greater Cleveland Peace
Officers Memorial Society or GCPOMS which will
assist in the recent $160,000 renovation of the
Memorial located at West 3rd and Lakeside
Avenue.
Interested motorcyclist can
register at Lake Erie Harley Davidson, Harley
Davidson Sales Company of Cleveland, South East
Harley Davidson, Western Reserve Harley
Davidson and A&S Cycle in North Royalton until
12 Noon on Saturday June 19th. Riders can
also register the morning of the Ride downtown
beginning at 8:30 AM on Lakeside Avenue.
The police escorted processional
ride will begin at 11:00 AM and proceed through
downtown Cleveland, Lakewood, Metro park,
Fairview Park, Rocky River, Westlake, Avon,
Elyria, Sheffield Village and ending at Lake
Erie Harley Davidson at 12:45 for food and
entertainment to all registered riders.
